One of the most essential parts of the healing process of Child Abuse is telling the “truth” about your life. Even though this is most difficult for survivors to do, it is one of the most powerful tools we possess. And even though this is a negative experience-take a leap of faith and “TELL”. Why? Because telling is trans-formative. You are breaking barriers; tearing down walls; ripping up the roots of fear & shame; secrecy and denial. Can you feel me? You are releasing the spirit of freedom. You are releasing the spirit of truth. You are releasing strength and power. There are levels in telling. Telling comes in stages. Know that each time you speak, your experience in telling will be different. What do I mean by “different”? Let’s talk about it! Your emotions when telling may manifest in various ways. You may experience the following: detached; sadness; anger & sometimes humor (remember these are survival tool for coping). | During, a recent series, on SEXUAL ABUSE, I spoke about Trust * choosing who to tell: well the same applies. We want to feel safe, because telling makes you vulnerable in varies ways. So we have to decide “who” to tell. This could be your spouse, if you haven’t spoken or devolved; your close friend, your overseer (or pastor); a therapist or someone in your world who may not understand why you’re upset; angry or sad; upset or crying; or your countenance is off at times. They may not understand why you need to be along at times or why you’re so needy or clingy at times. This can be the beginning or your support system. Let's begin the process of healing by uncovering secrets that you have been holding way too long. Start your journey today! Donise Benton |
